Hello from Paris, where I am spending the month doing research. Paris is one of my favorite cities (tied with New York), and I’m hoping to set a novel here: Maybe the next one; maybe the one after.
I’ve always loved visiting foreign cities, but Paris is special. I first came here at sixteen, and it was my first experience of leaving the Midwest (let alone the United States). What an incredible shock that was. I remember feeling like Alice in Wonderland– the food, the architecture, the art, the people. All of it was wonderful and strange and made me feel that I needed to know more.
Who would have guessed that years later I’d be married to a Frenchman?
And that I’d be communicating with my parents-in-law in French for days at a time, reading books in French, and eating the most incredible cherries bought at the Marché de Saxe?

The other reason I’m here is that the paperback of THE PUZZLE MASTER (LA MAÎTRE DES ÉNIGMES) is out in French. It was so cool to find it in a bookstore off the Boulevard Saint Germaines the other day!

If you haven’t read THE PUZZLE MASTER, here’s a way to win a free copy….

Q&A
Finally, I opened the floor to my friends on social media again this month to take any questions about my new books or the writing/reading/publishing world at large. If you have a question you want me to answer, send an email to dtrussoniassistant@gmail.com.
Q) What do you do after you finish writing a book and before the book is published? Are you working on the next project? Or do you keep your focus on the book that’s coming out soon?
A) I’m actually living through this period right now. I’ve finished THE PUZZLE BOX at the end of 2023, and it will be coming out the fall of 2024, and so I’ll have eight or so months between turning in the new book and promoting it. I’ve always found this period of quiet before publication a bit disorienting. My mind is still on the book that’s coming out, but there isn’t much I can do other than preparing for the publication. I try to get people excited about the new book (one example of this is the giveaway I mentioned above), but mostly I prepare to write something new.
Earlier this year, I wrote a draft of a novella in the world of Angelology, which was fun, but strange. As you might know, I haven’t written about those characters in a long time, and finding them again wasn’t easy. I’m revising that novella now, and am planning to send it to you– readers of this newsletter– first! Next month I’ll be sending out details about how you can get an exclusive (and free!) copy of this novella. Come back next month for all the details.
Thank you for spending your time with me. For updates, join me on my website, and across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Yours,
Danielle
