Special Dispatch from Danielle Trussoni: The San Miguel Writers Conference
Dear friends,
As you may know, I moved from New York to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico three years ago. In my time here, I’ve found a writing sanctuary and a vibrant writing community. A pillar of that community is The San Miguel Writers Conference, a tri-cultural conference and literary festival that brings together writers and readers from Canada, Mexico and the United States.
This year, I’ve become Director of Programs for the conference. We’ve just announced the names of the writers and faculty who will be joining us in February 2025, and I wanted you to be the first to know! Our seven Keynote Speakers, appearing February 12–16, 2025, at the Hotel Real de Minas in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, will be

• Percival Everett, distinguished professor and award-winning novelist (Erasure, James: A Novel)
• Ruth Reichl, memoirist and former Gourmet magazine editor (Tender at the Bone, Save Me the Plums)
• Kaveh Akbar, (poet and novelist Portrait of the Alcoholic, Martyr!)
• Jorge F. Hernández, novelist and historian (La Emperatriz de Lavapiés, Réquiem para un ángel)
• Jennifer Clement, memoirist and novelist (Widow Basquiat, Prayers for the Stolen)
• John Vaillant, novelist and non-fiction author (The Golden Spruce, Fire Weather).
The Conference also features a writing contest judged by renowned authors Ann Hood, Lauren Camp, and Judy Reeves, and writing workshops taught by world-class faculty including Susan Brown, Judyth Hill, Verónica Flores, and singer Daniel Gutiérrez.
Other events include our popular Mexican Fiesta, receptions and dinners, one-on-one pitch sessions with prominent literary agents such as Michael Carr, Anna Knutson Geller, Rita Rosenkranz, Sam Hiyate and Susan Golomb, individual consultations with experts like Harper Influence publisher Lisa Sharkey, faculty readings, open mic sessions, guided local excursions, discussion groups, wellness offerings, and more.
